They also noticed that the response to commands was "nice and fast." The reviewer thought it likely that the game would become as much of a favourite as the other titles in the series. Personal Computer Games said the game had good graphics, but they took a while to draw so the option to skip them was useful. Overall it was considered to be "a standard adventure with standard graphics." Your Commodore thought the game was not as good as the Zork series and with inferior graphics to rival title Dallas Quest. The graphical display was also highlighted, making up for the absence of long room descriptions. The text parser was described as "eccentric" but with "some noteworthy flexibility", being a modified verb/noun form that also allows adverbs and conjunctions ("QUICKLY GET THE LAMP, SWORD, CLOAK AND STAFF", for example). For example, identifying the British Prime Minister David Lloyd George is exceptionally problematic without first finding a clue to his whereabouts.ĬRASH magazine reviewed Waxworks in the July 1984 issue. Whilst some of the statues are exceptionally easy to identify, others are not so simple without acquiring the necessary clues earlier in the game. Escaping involves finding statues of famous people (like Hillary and Tenzing). The story is about a waxworks in which the protagonist is trapped. It was the 11th game in the Mysterious Adventures series. It was published by Digital Fantasia in 1983 for the Commodore 64, Plus/4, ZX Spectrum, and BBC Micro. Waxworks is an interactive fiction game by Brian Howarth and Cliff J. If you are a horror fan, I think you will enjoy this game and if you are just looking for something to play for this month, it will be a nice experience.Commodore 64, Commodore Plus/4, ZX Spectrum, Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Dragon, Oric Overall, Curse of the Ancestors is a promising game that still has way to go, but it’s made with respect and care for the original game considering current times but being a remake of a 30 year old game it gets a little under the radar. Something I hope they fix before the final release. The worst point this remake has in my opinion, is the RPG like system they go with equipment, levelling up in a horror game is not something that can’t be done but Curse of the Ancestors does it bad and awkward. Both things that this remake does not have. Maps and key items listed, as well as puzzle solutions. This is the best thing about this new version, 1992 game is not for amateur audience it’s a game that requires a LOT of patience and it’s level design is something that makes the game unnecessarily harder and makes me rage. Waxworks Complete Walkthrough (Maximum Spoilers) This is an absolutely spoiler-filled guide that will literally walk you through every bit of this game. Though like said earlier the atmosphere and gameplay is a lot more enjoyable and fitting for the genre as well as for modern audience. Nothing is perfect though, the game is fairly easy up to this point, and the gore I talked about earlier is less graphic than it’s original version, as well as not having any death screens that made the original stand. The game is it’s own apart from the story, instead of a Point&Click dungeon crawler now is a first person horror game focused on survival and combat either than puzzle solving.Ītmosphere feels great on the levels that are currently available and the monsters look good and gnarly. So the game is not complete and a lot of bugs are present. It is worth considering at the time of writing this, the game is available on early access on Steam, devs say it’s 70% complete and planned to go full release this Christmas. The curse revivesĬurse of the Ancestors is a remake of this game. The only way to destroy the curse and save your brother is to go back in time through the exhibitions and kill the evil twins along history. Our protagonist is the good twin and has just inherit a waxworks museum from his late uncle. Each of these waxworks display scenes from your family's history showing the past evil twins engaged in various dark deeds. As the game starts, you arrive at an eerie museum of waxworks formerly owned by your late uncle, Uncle Boris. Every time the family gave birth twins one would become pure evil. Supposedly, this is due to a curse cast by a witch on your family in the distant past. Like many old games, Waxworks follows a simple plot: A long time ago a family was cursed by a witch. A Dungeon Crawler filled with puzzles and gnarly death scenes filled with gore, even if you watch them by today standards they look cool. Waxworks is actually a 1992 game for Amiga, and I really recommend it if you like gore or just to be grossed out (and a lot of patience). This sick but enjoyable taste comes from a recommendation I make for you today, Waxworks. The month of horror is here and almost all of us are ready for all the screams, blood and nightmare fuel that entertain us in a sick way sometimes.
